Saturday, June 16, sees the Sempre Viva Trio makes its Cape Town debut performance on the recital platform of the Cape Town Concert Series at the Baxter Concert Hall in Rondebosch at 8 pm. Violinist Caius Oprea, cellist Polina Burdukova and pianist Kerryn Wisniewski will perform Beethoven’s Piano Trio in D, known as “Ghost”, the Trio in A minor by Ravel and the Trio no 2 in E minor by Shostakovich. The trio will also play Four tangos, the exciting Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by Piazzolla, arranged for piano trio by José Bragato. All three performers are established chamber musicians in South Africa. Caius Oprea, formerly concertmaster of the National Symphony Orchestra in Johannesburg, studied in America and latterly worked in Germany before returning to South Africa to perform and teach; Polina Burdukova studied in Moscow, then in Pretoria and Belgium, and was a member of the Rome Festival Orchestra before coming back to South Africa. Kerryn Wisniewski won several awards including the UNISA Overseas Scholarship and took second prize in the Concours Panafricain de Musique et des Arts. I have recently re-found a wonderful physio for my brain injured son (Ruan 9 yrs old). I am able to take him to physio, from a financial point of view (good medical aid) as many times as possible. My son was brain injured following a near-drowning accident 5 years ago and has rehabilitated wonderfully, but its the first time we can actually afford this therapy. Its very important that he has physio as often as possible. However, I work in Montague Gardens everyday and we live in Edgemead. The physiotherapist, Pam Hansford, is in Newlands. My request is for anybody who has the time/inclination, to fetch Ruan from school at Bel Porto, to take him to Pam for an hour in the afternoons and bring him home to Edgemead. I know its a tall order, but whoever has the time and inclination will be helping my son back to a normal life i.e. he might walk, talk, etc. again. We believe he will anyway, but we are trying to speed up the process. If enough people get involved, we might have a situation where one would only need to do it once a month.
